I had my interview in Montreal on November 23rd. My fiance and I drove 8-ish hours on the 22nd and stayed at the Travelodge on Rene Levesque for two nights driving home the day after the interview. Luxurious it wasn't but small and clean and inexpensive for those of us who are budget conscious. My fiance waited for me there.
My appt was for 8:15 and the walk from the hotel was less than 5 minutes. I arrived around 5 to 8 and they guard ushered me right in to the vestibule and told me to see the receptionist with my passport and DS160 acknowlledgement. She gave me my laminated sheet with number 9 on it. Then I stood in line to wait to go through security into the lobby. Very much like security at an airport but was allowed to keep my shoes on. Instructed to go to the basement for the elevator to the 19th floor. Once there I was told to sit in the middle bank of chairs and wait for my number to be called. This gave me enough time to organize the paperwork as listed on the laminated sheet.
I was called to window 8 where a young woman fingerprinted me and asked for my paperwork a couple pieces at a time. Quite pleasant to deal with.
I returned to the seating area and was called up to window 7 not very long after. A nice gentleman put me right at ease and swore me in. He returned original documents to me and I answered a few questions, how did my fiance and I meet. Had I ever been denied entry to the US. I answered fully and at the end of the interview he handed me that wonderful sheet of paper that said "Welcome to the United States". He told me it takes a few days to print the visa and I should recieve it in approximately two weeks.
I struck up a couple conversations in the waiting area and the time passed quite quickly, it also soothed my nerves.
I was out within a couple hours, I honestly lost track of time but none of the waiting was overly long.
Overall a pleasant experience.
