Review Topic: K1 Visa

*this is from my fiance's review* He was the beneficiary in India.

Arrival: He arrived very early at 7:00am for 8:30am appointment. There was a long queue of people. But he got into the Immigrant line.

Documents check: The only minor issue was that his birth certificate was not an original. And was very old. So they asked him if he had a High School certificate that would show his age. Thankfully be brought that and they accepted it.

Interview: He was interviewed by a young white male looking to be in his mid 30s.

He said the interviewer smiled and was very friendly. He said it actually felt like a conversation more than an interview. It lasted 30-35 mins. We only met once so maybe that's the reason for the lengthy interview time.

1. What is your fiance's name and birthday
2. How did you meet? (We met through dating app) He asked which one? Tinder ? OKCupid? Then he smiled and said he's heard of those and that that's good.
3. He asked about my hobbies.(I am a foodie) My fiance talked about how I love Indian food and shopping etc.
4. He asked about our differences in religion. He is Hindu and I am Christian. He told the interviewer that we love and respect each other and that we only serve one God. He said that's good. My fiance even mentioned the name of my church.
5. He asked when our wedding would be. He told him within the first month of arrival. My fiance told him that we would return next year for the India based wedding.
6. He asked about our engagement and if we had any pictures. My fiance showed him the photos. He asked about ongoing relationship proof. And my fiance went through a couple pages of the logs and talked about some the chats we had. I screen captured chats from WhatsApp, Facetime message, Facebook message, Skype.

He said the interviewer seems satisfied, typed some things and then said "You're Approved"!!!

Best day ever.

The only thing is, he told my fiance he would have to pay a USCIS Immigrant Green Card Fee before boarding the plane but I found that that's not accurate. As K1 VISA holders, we are exempt from this fee. Check the USCIS website for more details.

He felt lucky to get the interiewer he had because there was some other interviewer (older Indian woman) who was rejecting everyone that came to her. It sounded like 9 of the 10 people she saw, she rejected. My fiance couldn't tell why but seemed like those were more for non-immigrant Visas.

Overall it was a positive experience. He was there for 4-5 hours. His VISA would be ready in 5-7 days.
