Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
My interview was booked for 12pm on the 26/9/16.
I arrived at the embassy, nervous, at around 11am. I had been to the embassy after my medical a month earlier to familiarize myself to the area, which I think helped the nerves a bit.
Even though I was early, I thought I'd see if I was allowed in. So I went to an embassy worker sitting under a canopy in front of the embassy and asked if I have to see him or go to the security guy near the first little building. He asked what kind of visa am I here for and my name and to see my interview letter (which was a printed off e-mail) and my passport. He crossed me off the long list he had and directed me to the security guard who also inspected my letter and my passport and opened the door for me to enter the first building. This is where you have to scan bags and walk through a scanner - exactly the same as the airport. Everything was fine and I was directed to go through the door straight in front of the walk through scanner. Now you have to walk around the building, go up the steps and through the doors. Here is a desk and after I stood patiently for the two members of staff to finish off their conversation/moan about someone else who works there, she looked at my letter and passport and stuck 3 or 4 stickers on my letter which had a number on. She told me to go up the steps and take a seat in the hall. The hall was pretty long and had windows down one side and booths down the other. On the end wall there was a really big screen (only half of it was working). On the left of the screen were numbers flashing up. I'm guessing on the right was information about the visas, the only info I could see was about work visas, which was of no interest to a K1 visa applicant like me ha.
It was 11:15 by the time i was seated. I think I sat for around an hour before my number came up. 'I' numbers are for K1 visas and go up in numerical order.
I had to go to to window 13, which was around the corner and saw a polite friendly man. He asked for my finger/thumb prints, passport, if Id ever been married, if I had any financial letter i'd like to include (I didn't because I didn't know I could do this), birth certificate, evidence of support ( I handed over the same we sent in the original application), police certificate, he didn't want to see my DS-160 - but its electronic so it was probably already on his computer. he asked when I plan on travelling. He couldn't find any records of my medical and I informed him it was because the doctors found scarring on my lungs from the x-ray and I am waiting on TB screening results. Knightsbridge dr's were meant to let the embassy know about this, but didn't, which was frustrating. He understood though and it wasn't a problem.
After this I had to sit in the main hall again. This time I think I waited for like 30 mins until my number flashed up again and made my way to window 15 for my interview. I had a friendly American man. I took the oath then was asked for my right hand fingerprints. Then the interview began. The questions went like this: How we met, when, when did we meet in person, how many times and how long each time. Where Jason works and where he lives and what kind of residence it is, who he lives with. when i plan on moving over, and what i plan to do when I'm there (the answer they are looking for is living with my fiancé and GETTING MARRIED!)He was typing all of my answers into the system and I guess they compare them to what they already know. He then smiled at me and said hes going to go ahead and approve me! and wrote a big 'A' on the front of the file he had. He said that i can collect the visa in 1-2 weeks. I explained my medical situation and he said ill have the visa 1-2 weeks after my results. the only thing he handed back to me was my birth certificate. It was weird not having my passport, but its fine because next time ill see it my visa will be in there!!
All in all it was a pretty straight forward process. As long as youre truthful and everything adds up to them youll be fine.
I hope my experience will help you guys and calm your nerves because there is seriously nothing to worry about!
