Arrived early (10.30 for a 12pm appointment) and was allowed to enter early after a brief wait. Very straightforward getting in, can take bag and phone etc. Called up to first booth quite quickly, where the guy pointed out that my DS-160 had 'FNU' (first name unknown) for the first name, slightly confusing form but definitely my fault. A very stressful hour to get it sorted but I was amazed (and very grateful!) at how he helped me get it fixed and then we pressed on with the rest of business. Requested appointment and courier confirmation, passport, birth certificate, police certificate, affidavit of support. For the latter my fiancee is a student so no income, and he was perfectly happy to use my finances for support.
Once that was done was another short wait and then the interview, where I was asked how we met, why we have been together 7 years and only getting married now, and then the final question what are you going to do in the US...to which I gave a long answer so he asked me again with a smile...the answer clearly is I'm going to get married!
All in all, despite my self-induced stress it was a very straightforward experience and you definitely get the feeling that everyone there is trying to help you and not trip you up. Thank you London embassy staff!
