The 'interview' was more like a 3 minute conversation at a window (like at the bank, or at the DMV) while standing right next to other people doing the same thing at their own window.

The consulate was very busy, with at least 100 people in the waiting room. After the initial check in, there was a call to another window to review the required paperwork, then James was called up to a "window" and was asked a few questions...
- How did you meet Peter?
- How do you maintain a long distance relationship?
- What does Peter do for a living?
- What will you do for a living once in the US?

The clerk then said, okay, you're all approved. James was caught off guard (as he was so very nervous) so he asked if it was approved, and the clerk once again said, yes, you're all approved. And that was it - a 10 month long process culminated in a 3 minute conversation with a clerk.
