I had a great experience at the US Embassy. It went very smoothly.

I arrived 1 hour before my interview and there were already a lot of people lined up. People lined up according to their interview schedule and visa type. 30min before our scheduled appointment (7:30am), our line was asked to move to the front door. FYI No food, no water, no cellphones allowed (or anything battery operated. please check the ustraveldocs website for more info)

From there you'd walk up to a lot of windows where they'd ask you for your requirements (the most important one is the DS160 confirmation page). I brought a photo album I made for my fiancé and I to display at our apartment but they didn't ask to see any pictures. Each case is different; some of the documents I brought with me that I thought they would ask for weren't asked for but still, just come prepared.

I had a bit of delay with my visa because my birth certificate & old passport had my name in my mother's maiden last name. I've been using my father's last name since preschool and my NSO already had a note on the side that there was a court order for my change of name. But they asked me to provide an NBI A.K.A. that had my name in my mother's maiden last name on it.

I ended up sending 2 NBI clearances via 2GO as I didn't know which one was correct: My name (in my father's last name) with an A.K.A. or the NBI clearance with just my name in my mother's maiden last name.

A week after, I called to check the status of my visa. The lady on the phone was very nice and I explained the NBI situation with her. She said that my case was still under "Administrative Processing" and gave me information on how to check my case status online via ceac.state.gov (for K1 visas, you need to select IMMIGRANT VISA). That afternoon, the status read "READY". The next afternoon it read "ADMINSTRATIVE PROCESSING" and the day after that, it read "ISSUED"
