The process is not clear and it seemed like organized chaos. We had an appointment for 11:30 a.m. but waited in line in the small park until almost noon then were led to wait in another line outside the embassy for another hour. Then we were directed to enter the embassy, which was really an exterior screening area but there were no clear instructions about what to do next so we organized our papers and waited (wasted) another hour unnecessarily. Finally we realized we should enter the screening area and waited another hour to hand our documents to a woman at a window, who also took my Cuban fiancée's fingerprints. Then we were allowed to enter the actual embassy and waited for 3 hours to be interviewed. It was awkwardly quiet inside and the Cubans were visibly stressed and worried by the whole process. It seemed that most were denied and left the embassy upset and frustrated. Watching them made our wait seem almost unbearable! At almost 4 p.m. we were literally the last people interviewed--the place had emptied, cleaning crew was mopping the floor, most lights were off. But once with the embassy officer, the interview went well. She was courteous but super professional. She interviewed my Cuban fiancée at length and then interviewed me briefly to corroborate information in the petition. The interview lasted about 15 minutes and were approved. After a 10 hour day, we felt like we won a marathon race! Exhausting!
The whole process is definitely not what we're accustomed to here in the states--it didn't seem well organized or streamlined and they didn't very well communicate what to do, where to go, what to expect, etc. But of course, we were pleased by the outcome
