Review Topic: K3 Visa

Arrived at 7:30 AM for my 8:30 interview on April 25, 2016. I waited about 15 minutes outside until the officer called in and asked if I had my phone with me. They ask to turn off your phone once inside. A lady with an iPad asked for my interview letter and passport and provided me with a laminated paper with applicant number written on it. Then I was asked to go through the security. I had my car keys with me and they gave me a small piece of paper with a number and said to retrieve the key once I am done and headed out. The piece of paper was really small and can be easily lost. So make sure you keep it safe.

Then I proceeded downstairs where the elevator was and after about 10 minutes we were escorted upstairs by an officer. Once upstairs, people with applicant # were asked to be seated in the middle and those who were there for non immigrant visa were asked to line up. The time was now 8 AM and I waited around half an hour until my number was called to go to window 1.

The officer there asked me for my medical, two photos, and passport. He confirmed my addresses (both Canada and US) then took my fingerprints. He then retrieved a folder with my documents and with a checklist, asked me to present the originals (birth certificate, marriage certificate, police record). My husband's 2015 tax return papers were also asked (which I had thankfully taken with me). Then I was asked to be seated until my number was once again called after about 10 minutes. I had to go to window 7 where its more private for an interview. The officer there was really cool. Short brown hair, thin and french beard. I had to take an oath and again give the finger prints.

Questions asked:

When did you come to Canada? Nepal
Have you ever stayed in the US for more than 6 months? No
Did you have any trouble anytime going to the US? Yes (I had a minor issue at the border.)
When did you get married? 2015
When did you first meet your husband? School
When did the relationship begin? 2012
When was the last time you saw him? April 7, 2016
Does your husband work? Works part time, is a full time student
What is he studying? Pharmacy, graduates in May

Then giving me my civil documents back, he said "excellent. let me give you welcome letter, have a great day and congratulations! You will receive your courier in about 1-2 weeks). They will not expedite the process unless there is an emergency.

I was out of the building by 9 AM. Once downstairs, I have the small piece of paper to the officer and retrieved my keys.

Overall it was a pleasant experience. All the officers/staff were friendly. You just have to follow their instructions and you are good to go. It is also to have more documents than they ask for (just to be safe).

I stayed at Days Inn. 1 KM away from the consulate office.

**Tho driving for the first time in Montreal (like myself), you can't make a right turn when the light is red. And watch out for those bicycles**
