I arrived at around 7:10 (did not have phones with us) for my 7:40 am appointment on April 13, 2016. Was the 4th person in line by that time. I was worried about my documents size as there were other people in line with large folders and binders. I only brought what was listed on the checklist. For the evidence of ongoing relationship, I only brought 4 pictures of my fiance and me.
At around 7:30 I'm guessing, the guard came out to let us in. He told us to get DS 160 ready with our passports. My fiance was with me and he was allowed to enter the building with me. When we entered the door, a lady was there checking out appointment time and she handed me a piece of laminated paper for Applicant #4. We went through security (had to take coat, belt, watches off). I set off the metal detector (must have been my ring) and was checked with the portable wand metal detector thing.
Waited by the elevators as stated in several VisaJourney guides. Stood in the back of the elevator and entered the waiting area. It was 8:05 when I got called to booth #2. The lady was very nice, asked for my passport, copy of my passport, 2 passport pictures, original police certificate, birth certificate and copy (I brought both long and short form, she said long was "preferred"), fiance letter of intent to marry, i134 with 2015 and 2014 1040 and W2s and 2 pay stubs, and medical. She also asked me to confirm my address and phone number as well as my fiance's. She then asked if I had a copy of my fiance's passport and I told her no, but I had his physical passport with me. She did not want that. She took my fingerprints and I was sent back to the waiting area.
5 minutes later, I was called to booth #8, where I had the nice younger man with the glasses everyone was talking about. We bonded over him sharing the same name as my fiance :P. He then swore me in and took my fingerprints. Questions asked:
-is this you and your fiance's first marriage?
-where does he live?
-what does he do?
-when was the last time you guys saw each other?
-how did you meet?
-when did you first meet in the flesh?
-did you ever get in trouble with the police, at the border, fiance, parents, teachers?
-have you ever lived anywhere else other than Canada?
We also talked about the weather, about how he was only stationed in Montreal for another year.
He told me that he was approving my visa and I should expect it in 1-2 weeks and handed me a white piece of paper with instructions on how to pick my passport up.
I was out of the consulate by 8:30 AM.
