My interview date was set for April 4th at 0830, a Monday.
I flew into YUL/Trudeau Airport Saturday night from Vancouver and stayed at the Marriott Courtyard Downtown which is across the street and one block over from the consulate. They also allow a late checkout at 3pm for a small fee.
The consulate is located in a grey SNC-LAVALIN office tower. However do not go in the main entrance on Rene Levesque, the Embassy entrance is located around the corner on St Alexandre street. It's the only entrance on that side and there will be signs out front as well as the US Consulate shield above the door.
I arrived at 8:00, and was allowed into the lower waiting room area. The main consulate elevator was down so they were escorting us in groups of 10 to another elevator.
Upstairs the waiting area is setup similar to a DMV with a really nice wrap around view of the Montreal area. An attendant will separate you into one of 3 groups. US Citizen services are on the far right side [from seating position], Immigrant Visa processing [Spouses/Family based/work based] are in the middle and non-immigrant work visas on the left side.
At 0830 exactly my number was called to a booth in the far back of the office with a finger print scanner. My fingers & thumbs were scanned and the lady behind the glass asked me for my documents.
She requested:
-original long form certified birth certificate (she took a copy and returned it to me)
-original police certified RCMP certificate [she took the original]
-My sealed medical documentation.
One thing she requested that wasn't technically required was 2015 tax returns for my sponsors.
-I told them they didn't file their taxes yet [Still 10 days for tax filing] but I did have their last 3 paystubs and 2015 W2's to show in place of that, which she accepted.
I was told to sit down and wait to be called for my interview.
I waited for about 45 minutes, and I was called to another booth, which had longer walls and coat hangers on one side.
I had to swear an oath and had my fingers scanned for the oath.
My interview lasted less than 5 minutes.
I was asked if I was married. I had to sign a form stating that I would not marry until after I immigrate to the United States. I was asked if I was was ever arrested. And where I lived besides Canada.
I stated I lived in the United States for 9 years under 3 different types of visas for 3 different companies. I was asked if I maintained status and if I had overstayed any of my visas.
After that the last questions was where my Father lived, how long he has lived there and when was the last time I've seen him.
I brought tons of documentation but he didn't want to see anything more than what I provided the first officer.
He gave me a Welcome to United States letter and stated my passport and packet will arrive within 1-2 weeks.
I asked the officer few misc questions and I was on my way, completely finished by 10am.
Everyone was polite and professional, and it was a pleasant experience.
There's a few services nearby... on the block North there is a PharmaPrix/Shoppers drug mart with printing and photography services. And there's a starbucks across the street.
