My interview was scheduled for 1pm.
I arrived at 1130 and went to a nearby restaurant for food. At 1225 I arrived at the embassy to find quite a bit queue outside. There were 2 lines. I queued in the first one, and noticed that people from my line were being given a plastic bag for phones and then sent to the other line. I reached the front of the line in roughly 10mins. Handed them my passport DS-160 confirmation and appointment letter. He wont on my letter and sent me to the front of the line.
I was ushered into the security room which was much like an airport. It is possible for you to take your iPad and phone in, you just need to take them out of your bag for scanning.
Then went into the embassy building, was given a number. By the time I sat down it was roughly 12:45pm
My number was called (they are displayed on the screen) and I went to the window and had to give in numerous papers to the lady as well as my passport. She canned my fingerprints, much like immigration do in the states. She asked to see my photo, birth certificate, police certificate, affidavit of support, DS-160 confirmation, confirmation of currier payment. She also asked my a number of questions such as have I been married before, have I every lived abroad. Some she asked me multiple times, but easy as my background is pretty basic in that sense. She then told me to sit down and wait to be called again.
I was then called roughly 10mins later and spoke to an American man at the window. He was very nice and asked my to scan my hands. The machine didn't seem to scan them easily so we had a bit of a laugh about it. He then asked me my fiancés name, and how we met. How we maintained our relationship. The last question was when did I last see him....and that was it! The interview lasted less than 3 minutes!
They kept my passport, which will be sent to me via the courier within 2 weeks.
Feeling very thankful and like we have finally got a huge weight off our shoulders. We have already booked our wedding so a bad result today would have been disastrous for us and our wedding guests!
As long as you have all your documentation organised (I used one of those concertina folders and labeled each section, so I could quickly access what I needed), you will be fine! Arrive early incase there is a queue.
