Review Topic: K1 Visa

Just thought i would come on here and provide my London embassy experience.

I arrived at the consulate around 7:25am where a queue was already starting to form. I joined the queue and waited for the embassy to open. The staff were beginning to set up the checkpoint where they sign you in and give you a plastic bag for your watch, phone, belt etc. As i got closer to the front, i heard one staff member say that immigrant visas should come further to the front and join the small queue on the left. Once at the front, i had to provide my passport, appointment letter and confirmation of my DS-160. I then had my passport checked by a security man and was told to join the line for the room where you walk through the security barriers. All was smooth and was directed up the stairs and round the building. I was given my immigrant visa number I911. By this time it was about 8:30.

I wasn't called up the first window till about 9:00am. When i went up the window there was a lovely British gentleman behind the window. He went to get my K1 Petition file, passed over my chest x-ray CD and then took my documents such as affidavit of support, birth certificate, proof of paying the MRV fee and my police certificate. i then gave over my subject access report as i thought it would be useful as my police certificate says 'no live trace' due to an incident when i was 14. The gentleman flicked through my passport and saw my J1 visa from 2 years ago (how i met my fiance) and advised me that since i had gotten the J1, that the incident shouldn't be a problem when getting my K1. He advised me to sit down and wait for my number to be called again for my interview.

About 30 minutes passed when i was called for my interview at the second window. I was greeted by another friendly American gentleman who smiled and told me he would give my documents back as they had taken copies of everything. He then swore me in and asked me one question....'tell me about your fiance, how did you meet?'. I began rambling on explaining how we had met and how 2 years later we are still very happy. Whilst i was talking he pointed to social media post i had posted of us two that i had sent in with the 1-129F petition. I said 'yep thats him!', he said 'i love the height difference between you two' (my fiance is 6ft 2 and I'm 5ft 3), i said 'yeah i know i am so small compared to him!'. The officer then told me my visa had been approved and i will get my passport back within the next two weeks.

Overall, i was so relieved about the whole experience as i have been worried sick the past month about questions i would get asked related to my arrest when i was 14 and an admitted experimental drug use at the medical. Neither of these topics were brought up and i was only asked one question throughout the entire interview. I think this may have been down to front-loading the petition and the incidents being minor and the fact i was under the age of 18 for both.

I am now just waiting on my visa to arrive!!

So happy

Good luck to anyone having their interviews shortly!
