This review isn't about the actual interview itself, but the first time you have to visit the Tokyo consulate to submit all of the documents (I-130, I-864, DS-230, etc). I arrived at the consulate about an hour before the appointment, which was supposed to be for 2PM. There were about 3 or 4 couples were in front of us and we all had to wait until 2PM to begin going through security to enter the complex. In short, the time of your meeting is not the actual time of your meeting, it's the time that you will be admitted into security. You are led to 3 sets of doors that will be closed and you have to wait there until they decide they are ready. Once they open the doors, just go on ahead and go in. The people in front of us were just standing around, not knowing what to do for about 3 minutes. I got sick of waiting for nothing and passed right by 2 couples and got behind the others who were smart enough to do the same. You go to a computer and pick the visa that you're applying for (K-1 or K-3, immigrant or non-immigrant) and you get a number that is NOT random. You go inside and wait until your number is called. We were the third people to be called and got served by an extremely nice Japanese girl that was very helpful and understanding. We had all of the documents we needed and there were no problems. You will submit your documents to the first person you speak to and then are told to sit down again. After that, you are called up again to a different window and speak to (presumably) Americans who will ask a couple of casual questions. "Where did you meet? How long have you been together? How did you propose?" And that's it! Very casual, very easy. You are then called back to the window you first came to to get anything that they don't need and to ask any questions. She told us that we would receive the receipt and case number within 2 weeks and the kept their promise! We are now working on the second part (medical records, police report) and will probably be heading back to Tokyo in a month or two. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!
