Happy New Year. This board has helped wife and myself obtain useful information up until yesterday, her interview safe: therefore I would like to give our story in hopes of making other people's visa journey smoother in the future.

Quick summary. Through attorney filed I-130 and I-601 from USA. Both approved. I submitted to psychological evaluation to demonstrate extreme hardship from lengthy separation.Time lapsed between approval and visa application due to difficulties receiving Antecedentes penales y policiacos through my wife's relatives in guatemala. Embassy interview scheduled in Guatemala City and approved for visa.

Now onto my advice based on our experience and how we planned things. You should arrive a minimum 10 days before interview. I the petitioner was not required to attend interview so I stayed in states with child

If you do not have a DPI obtaining police and jail certificates will be near impossible. It's advised that if not already done, apply for DPI at mobile consulate in USA when available. Thankfully RENAP issued my wife an ID number on the spot and was able to solicite her certificates the next day. Again be prepared for this as the cedula is not long valid for these transactions.

Medical exam results were delivered same day, 5 days before embassy appointment.

Yesterday was interview. Bring absolutely everything that will support your case. Arrive 2 hours before interview, arrange transport beforehand since your phone is not permitted inside. My wife's interview was hasty. The CO asked how long we have been together even before marriage, how many children we have, when did she enter the United States originally, when did I propose to her. Very smooth and the official was a sweetheart.

Now I say we Made it out of this ordeal easily but we prepared for the worse. If you bring any photocopies bring originals. If you only have originals bring extra photocopies. Be prepared to wait up to one month for DPI issuing. Call the doctor who will perform medical and try to get vaccinations prior to appointment. The CO did not ask for any documents other than my daughters birth certificate from the 3 inch pile of papers she brought to interview but always use tabs to organize your papers.
