Interview itself went very quick and we were out of the consulate within one hour.
All the immigrant visa applicants had 07:30 AM appointments and were made to line up in a separate small queue. My fiancé (petitioner) was allowed in but the cell phone had to be disposed off somewhere. (Also, no CDs except Mefical CD). Luckily, since we were lodged in the Nariman Point Trident, the BKC Trident, which is across the street, accepted our phone for safekeeping.
After security, you are assembled in a big hall and given ticket numbers. Staff goes around the Hall arranging the papers in correct order before your number is called out.
Individual token numbers are then called out and then the first interview with an Indian CO ensued. My fiancé was asked to take a seat. Basic routine questions were asked. My documents were accepted. (Except our 'proof of ongoing relationship' package, which he asked for me to hold on until the next interview). Then was asked to take a seat.
Shortly thereafter, our number was called out again to a different counter, where a very friendly American CO greeted us. He was Ok with my fiancé being present. We both answered very simple questions. He did not even look at any of the extensive documents that my fiancé had laid out in front of him while answering the questions. He then said 'I believe you guys, you are approved', gave a Notice of Approval, returned all originals minus the Passport.
Then my fiancé said if the CO could please expedite the Visa as we both wanted to go back together and the CO replied that should not be a problem.
CEAC went through the usual Ready <--> AP to finally the issued phase. Finally, on Dec 2nd, got a text on the mobile phone that the passport is ready to pick up on (exactly 7 days post interview).
Overall, a very good experience.
