I had my interview yesterday at the London Embassy, appointment time of 8am. My experience was very similar to most of the people on here but putting it all down just in case it helps to calm those who are yet to go through it!

We arrived at about 7.15 (we'd stayed nearby in a hotel I booked using Hotwire, worried that if I tried to get there from home on the train that I'd run into weather issues or something). By that time there was a queue of about 25 people so we joined the back of it. About 10 minutes later they split us into three queues, one for non-immigrant visas with appointment time of 8am, one for all immigrant visas (we were in the first 10 of this queue) and another for non-immigrant visas with later appointment times.

At 7.30am, they started checking appointment letters and passports and moving us into another queue to go through security to start admitting people. I had a friend with me (moral support) and was told that she couldn't come in with me so she went to a Starbucks just down the road, with most of my bags which was a help!

Once through security (which is the usual, bags through a scanner and walk through another), I went into the building and was assigned the 7th number in my category.
I got into the waiting room at about 7.45am, none of the screens were on at this point and the "cafe" wasn't open. At 8am, the booth shutters started opening and they turned the screens on and started calling numbers to booths. As others have said, I spent the whole time playing on my phone and looking up every time there was the "bing" that announces the next number being called. At this point they were calling the numbers in my group in sequence so I wasn't too surprised when mine was called.

At 8.20am I was called to present documents, at the booth was a man who was really friendly and he had a woman assisting him to collect things for him. They requested the following:
- they took my finger prints for both hands and thumbs (the man commented on how cold my fingers were, the room was not warm but I expect the adrenalin wasn't helping!)
- letter which had my number for the day stuck on it
- passport
- 1 x passport photo
- birth certificate
- I34 + letter from my fiance's employee + his 2014 tax return (I had the tax return with me but I didn't expect them to request this so very relieved I'd brought more documentation than less)
He then thanked me, asked me to return to the waiting room to wait for my interview to be called. When I got there my number was still on the board which momentarily threw me. This all took less than 10 minutes.

At 9.30am I was called for my interview. Again there was a main man who I spoke to and another there to assist. This man was very polite but very official also so less warm than the first one
- he started by asking for my fingerprints from my right hand
- he asked me to raise my right hand and take the oath to say that all the information was truthful
Then he asked me the following questions. Unlike others I really felt like he was focussing on my answers.
- when did we meet
- how did we maintain the relationship since then
- will I be able to continue my current job or will I have to leave it; to this I answered that I have to leave it but that's OK because I don't like it which he smiled at
- have I met his family
- what are his parents names and brother's names
- what does his father do for a living (this one threw me, I do know the answer but it's not something we talk about a lot so was surprised)
- when do we plan to marry
Then he said congratulations and welcome to the United States. Again this all took less than 10 minutes. And I left the building as fast as possible and tried not to cry as I rang my fiance (who was not upset about being woken up!).
