My wife had her Medical and Embassy / Consulate interview 10/21-22/2015. She told me her medical went wonderfully and the interview fast and easy. However, one point which should be pointed out for the medical portion is the Vaccination requirements. According to the website, http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/vaccinations.html under Vaccinations it states:
Important Notice to Immigrant Visa Applicants Concerning Vaccination Requirements
United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations (listed below) prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:
• Hepatitis A
• Hepatitis B
• Influenza
• Influenza type b (Hib)
• Measles
• Meningococcal
• Mumps
• Pneumococcal
• Pertussis
• Polio
• Rotavirus
• Rubella
• Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
• Varicella
Based on this information (which is misleading and somewhat contradictory to the rest of the information provided in the site listed above). I told my wife she needed these vaccinations or she may not be permitted to enter the USA. Now this may have been an over the top reaction on my part, but one never knows when dealing with the US Government what they will accept and won’t accept. Anyway my wife had all of the vaccination listed above done a month or so prior to her visit. During her appointment the nurse told her that she didn't need all of those Vaccinations. They joked about it and the nurse indicated she sees that all the time. Point is have your spouse check locally what they need. How their local physicians will know, I have no idea, but check! It’ll save money and aggravation if anyone is squeamish with needles!!
As for the Embassy interview. Piece of cake. She told me they don't take you into a room but rather you walk up to a window, swear an oath to tell the truth and then she was asked where and how we met. They told her she was approved and her packet would be sent to her home address in one week.
I’m glad this is over and so is she and now we can press on!!
