I am the US petitioner.
Interview was scheduled at 8:30am and we arrived at 8:00am. A decent size line outside but moved quickly. After we went through security, we walked to an open courtyard that had people sitting on benches. Dont know why they were sitting but I asked the lady what to do and she just pointed me in. Once inside, we showed the paper and got number 280.
There was a lot of people inside and they were only at 150. So the wait began. We dressed in a shirt and tie and was probably only two of five people to wear a tie. But I thought we looked good lol. I saw people get called up to the window and asked to sit back down. The numbers went in order, except the other numbers were random. We waited for like two hours for our number to be called. We were called to window 3 and the young lady asked for: Birth Certficate, Buen Conducta, our phone numbers, my address, and the receipt from Banco Popular saying we paid for the VISA fee. I said I didnt have it, but she seemed okay with it. I offered the VAC appointment letter and she took that. She then told us to have a seat.
We sat back down and there was also people yelling out numbers through a blowhorn. I didnt know why. But then, I heard them call our number out through that and go to window 33. This was down a different hallway. When we went down there, I thought this was our interview. I was nervous because it was quiet down that hall and it looked like they also had the interrogation room there. I thought something was wrong at this point. We got to the window, and I was nervous getting my stuff together. She took his fingerprints which took some time. And then she told us to go out and have a seat for the interview. I was like, oh okay. I dont know why that step happened. He took his fingerprints at the VAC the day before. Maybe because they didnt have it yet, I dont know.
So then we sat down and waited for our number to be called. You have to keep looking at the TV screen because it is hard to hear the numbers and the second time they go in very random order. Finally, after about a 2 hour wait, we were called to window 23, the interview.
The lady was an American in her late 30's or so. She asked us what language we prefer, I said English and told her he would be in Spanish. She swore us in. She asked my fiancee the following questions:
1) Tell me the story of how you met.
2) Where did he stay the last time he was here.
3) What gifts did he give you for your birthday during one of my visits.
4) Where are you going to get married in, a church?
5) Do you know his family? Who did you talk to in his family.
6) Where does he work.
7) How many times do you talk and who pays your phone bill.
8) Do you know English.
Asked me (the petioner)
1) Tell me the story of how you met.
2) Do you know his family.
3) What does his brother do.
4) How do you communicate with him, how is your Spanish.
5) How many times did you come to visit him.
6) Why do you love him.
The questions were kind of back and forth between the two of us. I asked her if she wanted to see my pictures. I made a small little 12 page photo album she could go through quickly of all my trips. Only about 20 pictures. I also showed her my phone records for the past year with about 2-3 pages of our communications highlighted so she can see. She flipped through a few pages.
She was very bland and boring and did not show too much emotion. The only time she seemed to feel interested was when I said his parents are not living anymore. Her last question why do you love him and then she asked him if he read the domestic violence paper, I told her some guy out here read it to him because he cant read.
She scanned a few things with a scanner and said "Felicidades, su visa ha sido aprovado". and then "Congratulations your visa is approved". I was so happy we were both smiling and then she gave us a paper to track it and said it should be ready in a week. We said thank you and left we a big smile.
It wasnt a bad excperience. A very long wait but it was also very busy in there. Hard to find seats, but they have a small food cart that comes by every so often. Very nice place though. If you have any other questions, send me a message.
