I received my 1R-1 visa today at my interview!! All I can say is this website totally had me prepared so listen to EVERYTHING you read here about preparing for your interview. Here are the highlights to note:
- do not arrive more than 30 minutes before your scheduled interview time
- Do not bring ANY electronics with you into the consulate
- I stayed a the Travelodge Hotel ($101 plus $20 for underground parking at the hotel) plus I walked to my appointment (three blocks away: 5 minute walk)
- I arrived at 8:30am at the consulate (my appointment was at 9am) I was first seen at 10am to hand over my documents (this took 10 minutes and my husband USC was with me)
- Make sure you have: Current police report as they expire after one year, Certified/original copies of both divorce decrees, original birth certificate of person being interviewed, original marriage certificate. I did not need the original birth certificate of the my spouse (USC), 2 passport pictures of me, loomis letter, interview letter from consulate and medical results.
- at 12pm I had my interview (took 10 minutes) and then received my welcome to USA letter (had to read an oath out loud and was asked very general questions about my spouse and our relationship that were quite easy to answer.)
All in all a good experience. I was over prepared and there was a lot of waiting involved but I am ready after two years of this process for this to be completed!!
