We had our interview on 31st July at Mumbai Consulate. We had finished biometric process at Delhi almost 3 weeks before the interview.
Our interview was scheduled at 8:30 and we reached the consulate at 8:00. There was a long queue of people waiting outside. We were let in immediately when I mentioned immigrant visa category. Just keep passports and a copy of interview letter outside for security people to check. Inside, first one person from the group has to get into a line to get a token number. After getting the token number, we had to wait in the waiting area. There were a couple of consulate people who were arranging everyone's papers according to the token numbers. Our turn to arrange papers came after almost 30 mins and then there was some more wait time before our token number was displayed and we went for document check.
There was an Indian lady on the counter who checked our documents. She confirmed our names, DOB, address, petitioners name, address etc. She took the following documents - Passport, 2 photo for each person, birth certificates for each of us, two copies of marriage certificate (please carry 2 originals if spouse is also interviewing), police certificates, medical envelope (no need to take the CD envelope), VAC stamped DS260 confirmation pages for each applicant), Federal tax return from the petitioner, W2, job letter and pay stubs.
She checked everything and got our file that had been mailed from NVC to the consulate and gave back the whole bunch of papers and also returned all the originals. She asked us to wait for the final interview which would happen at another window when our token number is displayed. We were also asked to choose the language of interview.
After 15-20 minutes, our token number was displayed again and we went for the final interview. We took an oath and then gave our finger prints again. First, I was asked some questions about the petitioner - What does she do, how were the two of you born in different countries - I explained, Do you have anyone else in USA - Answered, Have you been to USA before - I said yes as I was there on a student visa few years ago. Then he asked my husband a few questions - What field of work are you in, who is your petitioner, does she have any children, when did you meet her last - He answered
He finally said .. ok that was it.. your visa has been granted and gave us two papers - one saying visa granted and another with the details about paying green card fee ($165 for each applicant) before reaching USA.
The consulate is very good, spacious and there was no problem at all. We had our 3 year old daughter with us and it was so good to have some lego toys and small table and chairs for the kids. She kept herself busy Water, tea, coffee, cold drinks and snacks are also available near the waiting area.
Our tickets are booked and we will be there in 2 months. POE is JFK.
