Before I start, I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for His mercy and His grace upon us.
I stayed at a hotel near the Domestic airport. Arranged a taxi for travel needs. Always make sure you leave the hotel or the place you stay a hour before because you cannot predict the traffic in Mumbai city.
My biometric interview was on 4th August at the VAC near the consulate. My appointment time was 10am. I reached VAC at 9:30. They called 10 AM appointments and formed a line outside the building and asked to wait, while a lady came outside and checked our DS 260 confirmation page. The documents that are required for the biometric are
1. Passport
2. DS-260 confirmation page,
3. Biometric appointment letter
4. Two 2"x 2" white background photos
Once you are inside the building, your papers are checked and your interview time is verified by an Indian officer. Once you have cleared you will be sent to individual counters where you have to summit your documents and you get photographed and your 10 fingers fingerprint it. The officer might ask your name and once you're done he will stamp the biometric date on the DS 260 and your pictures stapled to the DS 260. That's it for the biometric interview.
Visa interview day.
My visa interview was on 5th August at 7:30 AM. I reached the consulate at 6:45 AM, we were made to stand outside the building for about 10 minutes. Two separate lines for the immigrant and the non-immigrant visa. Make sure you don't take your medical CD, pen drives, mobile phones, earphones, and any of those electronic devices. By 7:10 AM they started letting people inside the building and again passed through metal detector and checked by Indian security officers that you are cleared to go inside the building. From there, I was sent to a waiting room and I got my token number from the counter. Meanwhile a Indian lady officer came and sorted my documents for the visa interview. Here is the list and the order that you have to arrange for the visa interview.
1. Stamped DS260 from the biometric interview
2. Passport and extra two copies of 2" x 2" photo
3. Original and a copy of BC and MC
4. Medical certificate
5. Police clearance certificate
6. I-864 with W2 and tax returns
When my token number was called on screen, i was greeted by an Indian counsellor, she went away for a while to take my originals that were sent from nvc to consulate, after going through the document and she asked these questions
1. who is calling you
2. where is she in United States,
3. Is this your first marriage,
4. is this her first marriage,
5. have you ever been to any other countries,
6. how long you stayed in that country.
After that she gave me back the originals sent by nvc and a paper regarding the domestic violation and regulations and asked me to read it. She then asked me if I need a translator, I preferred English over Malayalam. Choose the language you are most comfortable.
By 10 o'clock, my token number was called at the counter and I was greeted by a young and smiling American officer. The officer asked these questions
1. who is calling you,
2. what is she doing in United States,
3. when did she come for the marriage,
4. how did you guys meet,
5. is she living with her parents and what they do.
At the same time he was typing into the computer. And that's when he stopped he said your visa is approved and your passport and a sealed packet will be sent to your pick up address in 3-5 days and he handed me a white paper( that's about the fee for the green card that you should pay before travelling).
The whole interview took about 3 mins and I was really surprised. I reached hotel by 10:30.
Be confident and be ready with your answers. IF YOUR PAPERS ARE RIGHT, YOU ARE DOING IT RIGHT.
If you have anymore doubts, just ask.
Thanks VJ memebers for all the support.
