My fiance and I (petitioner) arrived at the Embassy at almost 7am for our 7:30am appointment. After reading here that folks don't necessarily have to arrive at 4am. I suppose it's ok for people to arrive that early. They will just be helped first and thus released early. If you arrive later, then expect a later release than folks who came before you. Simple logic.
After the usual scanning of your belongings, etc at the front, you will ultimately end up inside where there are 5 steps to complete the process. There are no big complaints, the experience was okay. No hassles. There are "greeters" inside the Embassy that will direct to where you need to go. My only complaint is that in their attempt to expedite the lines and people waiting, the order of folks got scrambled and those who got there later ended up going home first.
Generally, I would just suggest to prepare all your requirements and prepare for potential questions the consuls may ask. This review page has been helpful for us in preparing for the interview. Their main question is if either has been married before and if either has kids and how we communicate. It is true though that since I came on the interview (I'm the petitioner), it seems to be easier for us. Some folks were getting grilled by the consuls and couldn't answer.
If you have everything prepared and really got nothing to hide, this experience should be a walk in the park.
