Review Topic: K1 Visa

No where near as bad as i thought it would be!

I went to the London US Embassy for my K1 interview, and I had all this evidence prepared, etc.

So, first you see this person sat on a desk outside with your passport and appointment letter, they'll check it and send you through security, which takes a second, you just pop your bags through the scanner, and you walk through the metal detector. I had an iPad in my bag and the security guy just asked so see it and then i was on my way!

So you walk round the building (follow the signs to the Visa section) till you get to the door and then you go to a receptionist desk where they give you a number, tell you to watch out for it on the screen, and point you to the waiting room.

So, find a seat and just wait. the room was packed when i went, so bring and book or magazine because I waited an hour or so till my number appeared. and i recommend reading the on screen instructions and getting your items in the right order cause that really helps move things along smoothly.

So when my number was eventually called, i went up to a booth and was greeted by a gentleman who congratulated me on my engagement!
and then he took things like my passport, affidavit of support, etc. and put it on my file and took my finger prints. really simple. Then he said to go back to the waiting room and i'll be called again for my interview.

So i wait another hour, until my number gets called and by this time the waiting room is practically empty!

But when i do get called, i'm greeted by a different man and the booth. i expect to be bombarded with questions, and i have all my pictures and communication history.

Yet, he doesn't ask for any of it. he asks me to swear i'm telling the truth, and gets my finger prints again as my signature and asks me things like have i met his parents, what does he do work wise, how did we meet.

that was it. then he said congratulations you've been approved!

so, very pleasant and simple experience.
