We arrived at the embassy for our 12:30 interview about an hour early, and we were told to wait until 12:20 to come back. We don't recommend arriving too early, as there is little to do and few places to sit around the embassy. At around 12:15, we lined up behind about 10 people and waited 20 or so minutes for the guards to let us inside. I had printed out an email requesting permission to attend the interview alongside Brian, which I showed to the embassy guard along with my passport. Once inside, the security staff helped us to feel a bit less nervous with their smiles and friendly demeanor.

We waited in the air-conditioned waiting room for about three hours to be interviewed. We were very nervous, but the room was a lot more comfortable than we had expected. There was water available from a dispenser, and the bathroom was just outside. During our wait, Brian stood at window 5, where a woman took all of the documents we had prepared besides proof of relationship and a few tax documents. She later opened up his medical exam results and gave us our own copy, which we asked for at the time of the medical exam. The same woman later scolded a group of three (not sure what visa they were there for) who had only filled out and signed one DS-160 form for the three of them. We felt bad for them, as they had to leave and come back a few times, and we're not sure if they managed to have their interviews on the same day.

When it finally came time for Brian's name to be called to window 1, I waited very anxiously in the seat closest to the small room where the interview took place. I could hear a tiny bit of what the interviewer was saying through the walls, but Brian later informed me of the questions she asked. Nearly every question she asked was one that we had prepared for, thanks to VisaJourney. She asked questions about my family in the US, where I live, where we plan to marry, how we met, my work history and education, whether he had been married before, and so on. Most of the questions were easy, as we have spent quite a lot of time together. Eventually, she allowed me to join him in the interview room, where she asked me a few questions that she had asked him before to see whether we gave the same response. She had us show more evidence, which we had plenty of, mainly in the form of photographs and flight itineraries. She asked what our fondest memory together was, and thankfully I responded just as Brian had, even though we had not prepared for this question. After a few more easy questions, she handed us a blue sheet of paper and informed us that our visa was approved. We were so stunned and overjoyed that we could finally be together in the US that we could hardly find the words to thank her enough. On the way out, I almost knocked over a chair because I was so happy, overwhelmed and hungry from not eating all day.

Overall, the experience was great, and we found the embassy very pleasant to deal with from the beginning of our contact with them. The consular officer was far kinder than we had expected, and we couldn't be more pleased with the way things worked out.
