Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Our appointment was at 1:00 pm, and we got there half hour early. Since it was lunch time, we had to wait till about 1:10, when my wife (US citizen) was called in first (with a photo ID), while I waited outside. After about 10 minutes, I was asked to join her. The interviewer asked me some of the same questions that were already on the I-485 and I-130, viz. my address, when I got to the US, my SSN, birthday, was I ever arrested, was I linked to any terrorist activity, etc. She then wanted to look at evidence (not pictures) that we were living together as a married couple. We had our insurance, bank accounts etc ready. She informed us that she didn't see a reason to not approve our I-130, but that my name was still undergoing a background check. She said that this could take a while if my name sounded like others on the FBI's list, and also that there were people filing lawsuits over this. Both the interviewer and my wife were pregnant, and also the interviewer was 1st generation Indian, so there were some common topics of conversation. The interviewer was also very straightforward in answering our questions, even about the kind of background checks she had to go through to land a job in Immigration!
On the whole a very genial experience. We're both glad it's over, though.
