After 14 long months of my son and I waiting to be with my husband, we were finally approved this morning!!!
I will submit a review of our experience.
We got in line at the consulate about 7am. There were 5 people in front of us. The doors did not open until 730am. When we got inside, the room and security room were very very small. The lady asked us for our passport and courier instructions ONLY. Then, we went through security. No bags are allowed, unless it is a small purse or a CLEAR bag. You can bring a folder for your documents as well. No electronics, phones laptops, briefcases of any sort are allowed. If you do bring these things, you WILL be turned back. They will ask you to go to the eaton centre and put your stuff in a locker. They will not make any exceptions. Also, for those going with children, no strollers are allowed. They turned a woman away this morning, and she was only allowed to bring in the car seat,
Next, we went down the stairs and into a room full of chairs in front of an elevator. After about half an hour, the security officer came in and told us that we can go into the elevator and the lady upstairs would instruct us on what to do next. Only about 20 people can fit into that elevator at a time, so everybody basically rushed over to try to get in first. We were in first!!!
Once we got upstairs, we lined up in front of a counter were one woman was there asking for documents. For immigrant visas, they just ask for passport and ds-260, then they give you a little card with. Number on it that also states what documents you need to prepare immediately for when you are called up to the window (passport, interview letter, medical and passport pics).
We were called up to the window very quickly. The lady was very kind and asked for all originals, birth cert.. Marriage cert.. 2014 tax from husband, affidavit and what address you will be staying at in the U.S. After, you are asked to sit down and wait to be called for an interview.
There are washrooms , a vending machine and a play area for kids upstairs.
After about half an hour, we were called to a window. To my surprise, the man was young and very very kind. He asked basic questions like what's your name, your birthdate, asked me to read the oath, asked where my husband lived and what year I met him, when we were married and asked if I ever been denied...that's it. He took my fingerprints, and was joking around with my son and telling my son that it's almost over, we can go soon. My son was restless and bored, lol. Then, the officer said I am approving your visas and here's the welcome to the U.S. Letter. We will get our visa in 1-2 weeks!!!!!!
That's it. We were never asked to pay an immigrant visa fee, I think that's at the border.
