All things for my fiance's K1 went well. And then it hit the embassy in Manila. Things slowed to a crawl there.
We had her interview on March 2nd. It went well but they needed another NBI due to her married name (she's a widow). The interviewer said to get it and have 2GO Courier get it right up to him from Bohol and he'd release the visa. Once back in Bohol we immediately went to the NBI and got the paper and took it to 2GO that same day on March 3rd.
We waited 2 weeks. Nothing. I make a phone call to the embassy to see what's the hold up. I'm informed that they're still waiting for the NBI cert. to get there. We rush off to NBI in Tagbilaran City and track it down. it was delivered on march 5th and signed for by a guy there. They also give us the tracking number and the guy's name.
We head back home and the next day I call them again and they tell me the same thing - that it'snot there. I give them all the information I have and insist that it is in fact there and sitting on some guy's desk. I'm put on hold.
She comes back on the phone and tells me they'll be in touch and hangs up abruptly.
I get on their web site and file a formal complaint in their handling of this document. The next day I receive an official case number because they're going to look into this lack of communication. I write back and tell them that the lack is on their end and not mine. 2 days later we get word that the visa is on its way (the 19th). We waited a few more day and then got a phone call from a travel agency in Tagbilaran City, Bohol and they told us they had a package from the embassy for us. The embassy had sent her visa package to the wrong address! The address they used was an old address my lady had used 8-9 months before when she applied for a tourist visa to come to see me in the states (which was denied of course). They claimed this was the address on her paperwork when I called them. I debated it and told them I had copies of every single piece of paper I had sent to them and not one of them had this old address on it. I informed them that they had messed up in a big way. This was a huge snafu on their part. Mishandling of legal documents like this was serious and I let them know. We've never heard another thing about it. How disgraceful of a US embassy to handle something so carelessly. Between this and the NBI issue, it's a wonder we made it to the USA at all. I give them a 1 only because of the way the interview went and how the staff handled the crowds. They were super!
