The medical first:
I went to Dr Cheema's office in Surrey and after checking in, was asked to take a seat. About 10 minutes later, the receptionist called me up and asked to see my passport, interview time/location email, packet 4 letter with my case number on it, 4 passport photos and my immunization records. I sat back down after everything was verified and then was called in about 15 minutes later. A nurse measured my height and weight.
Dr Cheema sailed through a bunch of medical history questions, a physical exam which included an eye exam, some poking and prodding, listening to my heart and lungs and took my blood pressure. I was in the exam room for 5-7 minutes. Really sweet ladies working there with great senses of humour! I was directed to another office to get X-rays and a blood test done. It is a 30 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride. X-rays and blood tests took another 45 minutes. The results were ready the next day.
The interview:
Interview seems to be the wrong word. It was more of a 2 hour wait followed by a 5 minute conversation about ourselves then an approval!
Security lets people in 15 minutes before their interview time so don't bother showing up any earlier. They do a very thorough search of your bags, papers, wallet. No backpacks, no large purses, no key fobs, no cellphones or cameras, no lighters, no food or water. They ask for your passport and DS 160.
You are then directed upstairs and sent through a metal detector after removing all metal objects. A guard escorted the K applicants upstairs to the 20th floor and we were told to go through the door, turn left then left again, flip the switch on the wall of wicket B if no one is at the counter.
The lady went through all my paperwork; she asked me for my passport, DS 160, birth certificate and translation (Quebec), death certificate from my first marriage, divorce decree from my fiancé's first marriage, I-134 affidavit of support, criminal record check, passport pictures and medical packet.
I was asked to sit and wait for my number to be called. I brought a book on the advice of an earlier reviewer and I was glad that I did! I sat for about 1:45 while they went through various visas.
When my number was called, I headed up to the booth and the interviewer was really really nice. She quickly skimmed through my I-129F file and took my fingerprints.
I wouldn't even have known I was being interviewed if I hadn't watched a K1 couple ahead of me. It was so relaxed, more like every conversation I had with friends and family when I told them I was getting married:
How did you meet?
What does he do for work? And you?
Have you met his family? Has he met yours?
How did the proposal go down?
What are your wedding plans?
Does he have children?
Were either of you previously married?
All in all, maybe 10 questions.
At the end, she said everything is in order, looks like you two can go ahead and get married. I said thank you, she informed me of the rules and restrictions pertaining to a K visa and sent me back to the receptionist to get instructions on picking up my passport.
This was legitimately the easiest part of the process.
