Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Salam/Peace to everyone on VJ. Praise God our Interview went well and the Visa was approved and issued. Thanks everyone here on VJ for sharing your experiences and Journey. I hope that this summary of our interview will help others as well. I am the petitioner and attended the interview with my husband.

We arrived at the Shuttle station at 6:15am, our appointment was at 7am. I recommend getting there even earlier. There are a lot of people at all locations and lines are long. So arrive atleast 1 hour or more before the appointment time. We finally arrived at the first embassy waiting room at 7:15am.

First waiting room took about 20 minutes before my husband was called up. He was taken to a room. I had no idea what was going on and wasn't allowed it. It actually was just for biometrics. They took his finger prints.

About 20 minutes after that our number was called for the next waiting room where they initially took our documents that were listed on the P4 Interview Letter to bring, including Medical.

After about 15 minutes we were called up to the interview window. A friendly and professional female CO greeted us. My husband read the oath in english and then the questions began.

To Husband:
How did you meet your wife?
My husband answered
What is your profession?
My husband answered
Do you do programming?
My husband answered
How many people attended your wedding?
My husband answered
What is your wife's profession?
My husband answered
Have you ever traveled abroad? Like to Afghanistan?
My husband answered both questions.

To me (wife):
Are you the petitioner?
I answered
You have one child?
I answered
How many times did you visit Pakistan?
I answered
For your wedding? Then visit? And now?
I answered each question
When did you arrive to Pakistan?
I answered

After that she said, 'Well your visa has been approved. You should receive it through the courier service (at your home town) within 2 -3 Weeks'.

We had brought stacks and stacks of proof of relationship. But none was asked, it was clear we had it because we laid it on the counter.

We were so very happy, and felt so blessed. Alhamdulillah, Praise God.

Advice:
-If your spouse can go with you, that might help.
-Try to remain calm, there are way too many people there who are in bad moods, it doesn't help the situation. Be courteous and friendly to whichever CO you're assigned.
- Arrive early, there are 3 checkpoints and they are thorough. Bringing items you know are not allowed will only slow things down.
- Bring money. There are fees to enter the shuttle station and then again for the shuttle.
- Even if you think they won't ask for proof of relationship, bring lots of it anyway. It appeared that each CO and each interview was very different. You just never know what they'll ask.
