Sorry.. Meant to be more specific about which consulate and which VISA.. here's the review again.. with more details!
Had an appointment today, scheduled for 10am. I was staying on the North Shore so drove in. I actually parked at the Medisys (medical place) underground parking as I had to pick up my medical results and didn't really want to worry about parking again. I went upstairs, got my medical and walked to the Consulate. If you choose to do this, it's quite easy - walk down city councillor's about 4 blocks to Ste-Catherine's street, walk one block left to St-Alexandre and 1 block down to the building - less than 10 minutes.
Got to the Consulate at 9am. Was let right in after seeing the greeter who asked me for my appointment letter and passport. Went through security. Some people did have larger bags. One guy actually just had a small bag, big enough for his documents (basically what you would put your MacBook in) and they denied him. I only had documents, keys, wallet and a bottle of water. They took the keys and the bottle of water away and gave me a claim ticket.
Down the stairs to the elevator, pressed 19 and sure enough, it opens in the back. Didn't matter though as I was the only one in it. A very friendly receptionist greeted me, checked my letter, passport, loomis confirmation and then she gave me a number. The number tells you what documents to have ready next - passport, 2 photos, medical and apt letter.
At 9:20am i was called up to a window and I handed in what was asked for. The lady then asked for all my originals and photocopies - I had actually brought too much. She asked for Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Police Certificate and the original i864 with 2013 taxes. This is on top of the 2 photos, the loomis confirmation, your passport and the appointment letter.
The lady took my fingerprints next, asked me where I wanted the VISA mailed and confirmed the US address. She confirmed my date and city of birth as well as my phone number. Needed my husband's address and phone number also.
Went to sit down again and wait for my number to be called again. This was about 9:30am. At 9:50am, I was called to the next window, the interview window. The lady had me read an oath with my right hand raised. She went over my documents.. handed them back to me one by one. Asked a few questions -
When/where did we meet?
When's the last time we saw each other?
When did we start dating?
Since we work on a cruise ship, do we travel together? what cruise line?
ever been convicted of a felony?
Ever denied entry at the border?
She then checked all documents again, said everything looks good and 'congratulations, i'm approving your application".. she then looked around for the "welcome to the United States" letter as she run out. She got me one and I was on my way.
I got to the consulate at 9am and was out of there just a few minutes after 10am!
Thank you SO much VJ for helping me through these past 14 months.. couldn't have done it without you!!
