Process & Procedure my fiance had to follow for obtaining K1 Visa from Consulate General Mumbai
As your petition has been approved by the USCIS, the petition will be sent to mumbai / Delhi consulate office. After that they will send you a E-mail with the intimation and instructions to get prepared for the interview.
These are the steps to be followed for the visa interview
Step 1: Obtain your Police Clearance Certificate from the Regional Passport Office.
Step 3: Complete Form DS-160 online at ImmigrantVisas.state.gov and print the confirmation letter. Please do this for the fiancé and any derivative children who will be applying for a visa.
Step 4: Go to http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in.Create a user account, select your passport/visa pick-up location and pay your non-immigrant K visa fee online.
- Once your fees is paid you will get a receipt number which will get updated to your profile automatically. In case of online payment you can print the page with receipt number after the payment is done
- If you pay it in Citi / Axis bank counters you will get a receipt number and a bill.The number will get updated in next three hours and then you can schedule the appointments.
- Maintain the Visa Bill Receipt as you need it for the interview.
Step 5: Only after completing Steps 1-4, log in to http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in to schedule two appointments: One appointment for bio-metric fingerprint and photo collection at the Visa Application Center (VAC) and one appointment at the Consulate.
After scheduling both the appointments you will receive an email with the appointment confirmation where you will have the date, time and venue for your bio-metrics and interview. Your passport pick up address also will be mentioned
You need to wait in a queue to get your documents verified and then need to cross through the security check and then your DS 160 number will be scanned and you will be given with a token. Need to check for your turn and finish your bio-metrics.
Next Day for interview not necessary to wait in the queue. You can walkin direct to a verification officer and show your passport and tell him as you came for K visa Interview. He will direct you to the counter and again a token will be given here for document verification and interview. You can select your preferred language for your interview. Translators are available in the counters to assist the consular officers.
Documents required for Bio-metrics Photo & Fingerprint:
- A valid passport
- Vaccination appointment letter
- DS 160 confirmation page
For a Consular Interview
- DS 160 confirmation page
- Two photographs 2x2 inches
- Medical Report (No X-ray films or discs)
- Police Clearance Certificate from the Regional Passport Office
- Original and photocopy of Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate/ Divorce decree (if previously married and divorced)
- Affidavit of Support: Form I-134, Tax returns, W2s and job letter.(If not already submitted to the NVC)
- Proof of relationship between petitioner and beneficiary
- Visa Fee payment receipt
Only the applicant can go into the consulate office and no other person are allowed. No mobiles and electronic devices. You can carry a small purse or handbag. No backpacks are allowed. Documents to be taken in a transparent file or folder.
It will take 2 - 5 working days for your visa and passport to get ready. Your profile in the website will give you the updates. But you need to check it now and then for the updates. The consulate people will tell you that you will receive an email and sms. But at times it may get delayed. So you need to have a continuous look for your passport. You can track your passport with the help of the contact numbers provided by the consulate.
