Well first off it was absolutely FREEZING the morning of my interview (January 5, 2015). We stayed at L'Appartement Hotel, which is across the street from medisys and a ten minute walk from the consulate. I stopped by medisys at 7am to pick up my medical exam and in that short time, my husband (who had gone to put our bags in the car which was in a garage) decided that we were going to drive to the consulate in lieu of walking because of how miserable it was. I used Saylin's photo instructions which were so helpful!
He dropped me off right at 730am and waited for me close by at the Burger king around the corner. everyone was crowding the door to block the wind but I lined up against the wall as Saylin suggested. As a result, when the guard came to open the door, he made the crowd file in a single line behind me!
Once we all got in, we went through the security check. I watched so many people get turned away for bringing in purses and bags. Once cleared through security, I went down the stairs and sat by the elevator. 20 minutes later, a guard came and told us to go to the 19th floor. I stood at the back left of the elevator and was the second one at the receptionist desk. I received #2 and sat down. Not too long after, I was called to wicket #2. She was very pleasant. She asked me to confirm the petitioner's name, my address, his address, and if it was my first marriage. She took my passport, my P4, original birth certificate, marriage certificate, affidavit of support x 2, and the police check. She confirmed my mother and father's names then took my medical exam. She handed me back my marriage certificate and birth certificate and asked me to scan my prints, then she took my passport photos. Afterwards, she told me they would call me overhead for my interview and that I'm #2 and handed me the domestic assault and partner abuse letter to read.
After about 20 minutes (guesstimate, there was no clock around me and I don't have a watch), I was paged overhead to room 7. She was also very pleasant! She asked for my marriage and birth certificate. Then she asked me the following questions:
1. How long have you been married?
2. Where does he live?
3. Is this the first marriage for both of you?
4. Who is (Sponsor name)?
5. What does she do for work?
Now back to my relationship
6. How did you meet?
7. Do you have any children together?
8. How often do you see each other?
I was smiling the whole time, these are literally all the questions I'd be asked on a regular basis by anyone that finds out I'm married to an American!
She handed me back my certificates, lined up all the paperwork, smiled at me and said, "So, everything checks out! Here's your 'Welcome to America' letter (this is when is exclaimed gleefully, "REALLY?!", she piped out a resounding 'yep!'), all courier information is on the back and you should get your package in one to one and a half weeks". I said, "I'M SO EXCITED!!", and she smiled and said, "it is exciting! Have a great day!".
I'm pretty sure I floated to the elevator. On the way out, the guard opened the front door for me and said, "Well someone looks very happy!" and of course I squeaked out, "I am!". Then I walked (skated, it was so icy) to my husband to deliver the news!
All in all, it was great! So long as you literally bring EVERYTHING (because you never know), you shouldn't run into any problems. AND DON'T BRING A BAG! Hahaha!
