Review Topic: K1 Visa

The whole experience was pretty positive. I arrived 3/4 hour early for my 8am appointment. There were already 5 people ahead of me in the queue and it quickly grew. We were split into groups once the staff arrived and it would seem the K and Spouse visa applicants were processed first. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They wanted everyone to have the confirmation page of the DS160, the interview letter and passport ready for when you got to the front of the line. We lined up a second time before being sent, 3 at a time, into the baggage, X-ray room. Again, very friendly staff. From here we were to go around to the other side of the building to enter the processing room and receive a personal processing number. We were then directed to sit anywhere in the large waiting room.

I was called 4th or 5th and directed to go to window 1. I had heard reports that the staff were sullen and unhelpful on occasions but my experience certainly didn't suggest that. She was very jolly and chatty, having a laugh because she caught herself repeating questions. She wanted to take my passport, originals of certificates, decrees etc., DS160, interview letter and passport & I-134. She then took my fingerprints on the scanner at my window. I was then asked to take a seat and wait to be called for my interview. 15/20minutes later I was called through to window 15, which is through into a back room. I was greeted by a very friendly man who asked questions about my fiancé and I meeting, how many times, what site, when did we talk about getting married, how many children do each of us have. He went through my paperwork, clarifying a couple of points, asked me for more fingerprint scans and then announced my visa was approved and wished me all the best.

The whole process took an hour and I was on my way. It certainly didn't warrant the few sleepless nights I'd had before today! My fiancé was exstatic to hear the news - even though it was 2 am over there! I would just like to publicly thank all those who helped me on this leg of the journey, your help was invaluable. I would suggest to anyone coming up to an interview to check the list of information required, on the website, and just go with that. I took much more paperwork, extra copies, etc. but none of it was necessary or asked for - although I'm sure, had I not taken everything, they would have asked me for something I didn't have.

I can now relax and wait for my visa to turn up I with the courier...I was told it would be two weeks.
