I arrived at 7:30 for my interview at 8 am. Joined the first line at the end of which I presented my passport and DS160 confirmation/payment confirmation. The lady ticked my name on the list and sent me to the other line to the security portal. Dropped my things in a box and I was inside by 7:50. The numbers started being called on the big screen at about 8:10 and mine was I-904 (seemed to start at I-900) so I was called quite quickly. The lady at the booth wasn’t extremely nice I must say and a bit abrupt: she asked for my birth certificate, my police certificate (to my surprise she said she didn’t need the translation of my Belgian police certificate in French – just the original?!) and then she asked for my courier confirmation. I wasn’t sure what she meant as I didn’t book the courier and I am just going to pick up my visa but I understood she meant the confirmation of payment of the visa and gave it to her. She then said it was “really cheap” (I guess because the courier fees weren’t included?) When she asked for my affidavit of support I asked her if I should give her the letter from my fiancé’s employer, his pay slips and his tax return as well and she seems quite annoyed and said “why did you take his tax return? There’s no need for that!”. ANYWAY.
She gave me my ticket back and told me to wait for the interview. My number was called probably 30 mins later (although it seemed forever). The American gentleman conducting my interview was absolutely lovely. He started by saying that he gave up on pronouncing my Russian last name then asked me when I met my fiancé, what he was doing, what I was doing, when the wedding was planned, when did he proposed,… and then said that my 30th birthday was this year to which I answered “Oh yeah, I know, that’s why I need to get married RIGHT NOW” and he laughed. All in all, it seemed like an informal and friendly chat and not scary at all. He then told me that my visa was approved and smiled when I made him repeat that piece of information 3 times. (He was quite lucky a window was separating us or I might have hugged him there and then!)
I know that all of you are going to be worried till that moment (as I was) regardless of what I write here but I really want to tell you that it’s to be fiiiiine. The interviewers in my experience (and in most experiences posted here) seem to be really friendly and really not in the business of intimidating us poor souls!
Good luck y’all and see you across the pond in a few months!! xxjavascript:emoticon(' ')
