My fiancee went to the OFC and got her finger print done. It took about 10 mins for this process. They gave a sticker and put it on the back of her passport.

The next day she went to the consulate. She went 1 hour early, but it didn't matter since they make you wait behind barriers until 15 before your appointment time. She went in and it was fairly routine. She gave her documents (passport, appointment letter, ds160, medical, pcc, etc). Then they asked for proof of relationship. She provided pictures, plane tickets, cc statements, and 800 pages of whatsapp chats. They only looked at a few pictures and then asked her questions.

They asked:

who is calling you?
does your fiance have a brother or sister?
where does the brother or sister work and live?
What does your fiance's parent's do for work?
where does your fiance live?
What do you study?**
What does your fiance study?**

**They asked her these questions because we are 20 & 22 years old, but they may not ask this to you if you're older.

After the questions, they verbally said she was approved, took her passport, and said she will have to pick it up in the local office in about 1 week.

She was with 3 other people in mumbai applying for K1. 3/4 were approved and 1 was denied. I don't know why the 1 was denied.

Although the process sounds routine, I was a bit worried since she went in at 9 am and came out at 1:30 pm. Other people on this site said it only takes 1 hour, but from our experience, be prepared to wait longer.

I wish you all the best of luck!
