I had to re-schedule my interview, and this was a little painful. The Consulate basically left me a little in limbo, by saying that they would contact me. I chose to follow up regularly via email (every 2 weeks), asking if a date had become available yet, and 90% of the time they replied within 24hrs. I would advise that if you have no response within 72hrs in a normal week, then send a follow up email.
The Consulate was a little hard to find - Fortunately people in Sydney are very friendly, and I managed to navigate! I went up to the Consulate level in the lift about 30 minutes prior to my interview time. I explained that I was early - This was not an issue. They took my cell phone, and kept this until I left after my interview (No cell phones allowed inside the Consulate!)
I waited in a room with a number, and with a lot of other people. I was called to a window to basically 'check in'. Then I was called up again shortly after to give them the 'requested documents' and to have my finger prints taken. I was then called to a different window for my interview. The man asked me how I met my then fiance, and how many times and the circumstances in which we had visited. That was it. I told them that I had brought additional supporting evidence (Most recent boarding passes, travel insurance certificate and photos etc - A whole file I had prepared) but he said that he only required the requested documents. They kept my passport, however I was not issued the visa on the day, as I did not have my medical results as I had only had my medical the day before. They simply asked me to forward this to them when I received the results. I did that 4 days later, and within 2 weeks of my interview they issued the visa, and I had received it via courier.
Overall, everyone at the Consulate was very helpful and pleasant, and the experience was not nearly as scary as I thought it would be! Including being there 30 minutes early, I was in there for approx 90 minutes - Most of which was waiting time. It's just everyday for those guys, and a one off long awaited day for all of us! I know you'll all be nervous, but rest assured this Consulate makes the experience a pleasant one
