Richard his his interview today and here is what he said about it…
"My appointment was at 9:30 AM and I got to the embassy around 8:20. There were about 40 other people in front of me in the queue but it moved fairly quick. Got to the first guard and showed them my DS-160, passport, and my interview letter. The lady claimed I wasn’t on the list, but after realizing it was a K1 interview, pulled out another list and found my name. After that went into another queue for security. Once I got through that I went up and around the corner to the steps to reception, got a number, and was in the waiting room by 9:00 AM. At 10:20 I was called up to the first window. Handed over my birth certificate, police report, passport and passport photos, Michelle’s affidavit, her taxes and bank statement. They scanned my fingerprints and then I went to sit back down.
At 11:45 I was called up to the second window and had a stern America. Raised my hand, did the oath, rescanned my fingerprints. Asked: how we met, how many times in person we met, if we met each others families, if I had been to her mom or dad’s houses (her parents are divorced). He was flipping through the I-129F the whole time and then got to the pictures and loosened up a bit. Michelle had just gotten a tattoo in one photo and her arm was wrapped and he was asking about it and laughing. Then he went, “Mr. O’Brien, congratulations, your visa has been approved.” Wahee! He told me it would be posted to me within 5-7 days and even though I didn’t pay the courier fee online, he didn’t mention anything about it. So I skipped down the steps like Mary Poppins and was out by noon!
Michelle texted right after saying I was supposed to pay the courier fee so I went back to ask about it and they said the following, “We are phasing out the fee, it’s a bit of grey area right now but if they didn’t mention it you shouldn’t have to pay. If you do end up having to pay, the courier people will let you know.” So we’ll see about that! Other than that it was pretty good overall! Only complaint was that it seemed like I was waiting a lot longer than other people for some reason."
