Review Topic: K1 Visa

First I want to give a bigggggg shout out and thanks to J.Urena26 and Mr,Tee12 . You both were so nice to me and answered all my questions . I couldnt have done this without you both. I also want to thank the Lord for being with us the whole time and making this process literally a breeze for us. From the moment I started the paper work until the visa was approved was only 6 months with 0 complications !

So here is the review.

Our interview was March 4 at 6:45am. He lives in San Fransico de Macoris about 2 hours away from the capital so we decided to stay at a hotel that came highly recommended here on VJ http://www.jardinesdelteatrord.com/ here is the link for their site. Its called Los jardines del Teatro. Its great because you can make a reservation online without having to put in a credit card or anything. They are also great in that they are super flexible with the time that you check in and check out. The location is perfect because it is so close to the embassy that we didnt have to take a taxi to get there in the morning. The owner is so nice and she sees so many people that come in to the hotel to go to the embassy that she had some really great tips. She told told us to go just about 30 mins before so that we wouldnt be standing in line outside of the embassy for hours and hours. Following her advice we left the hotel the next morning at 6 and arrived there at the embassy at 6:01 lol. We did run into some buscones.. my fiance just said "Ta todo ready ya" , (more or less we got everything we dont need your help)...after that they left us alone . There was already quite a line but not too bad. For everyone applying for a K1 visa you should stand in the line on the left if you are facing the lines, the residential visas line. We only stood in line for about 30 mins before it started to move. They ask you to take out your appointment letter they then give you a number. Once inside there are benches to sit and they begin to call numbers. They numbers are not called in any specific order. They will call 300 then 30 then 120 for example. Honestly our wait once inside was pretty long but I feel its much better to wait inside sitting then to be waiting outside standing. They called us first to take our documents. Then we waited maybe another hour for them to take finger prints. Then we waited for what felt like all day for the interview. I read so much before i went that I felt pretty prepared for the process. However I didn't know that the interview would be done standing up at the same windows that they used to collect the documents. It was like going to the bank and talking to someone through glass. I was expecting something a little more formal like a sit down in an office. Oh well we were finally called to window 26. She was a white woman probably about 40 yrs old. we were both sworn in. She asked if we wanted to interview in English or Spanish I said I preferred English but my fiance only speaks Spanish. So she said she would do the interview in both. She start with my fiance asked

Where did you meet
Is her mother from the US? ... shes from Trinidad but he knew that
And her father ? Dad was born in the US...he knew that too
How many children do you have
Where does she live
With whom does he live

To me :
They asked when I left the country ?
She asked to see my passport.. She say my stamp from Christmas I told her I was there for a month for the holidays
She asked here I stayed
she asked again if anyone else lived in the house
I said no , all his sisters are married
She asked about his brothers and sisters how many there were
she asked me if he has a lot of contact with his daughter
she asked me if his daughter went to school
she asked about our plans regarding his daughter
She asked which schedule she has morning or afternoon
Then we started chatting about how different the school system is here and how she finds it strange that the kids only go to school half day lol
She asked me about his job , his schedule how long hes worked there
shes asked to look at pics that that I brought
She asked who some of the people were
She asked about wedding plans
she asked if we ever went to the same church, I told her we are members of the same church in the RD

Honestly it felt like we were just having a conversation it was very calm she was very nice . She barely asked my fiance anything lol Her spanish wasnt the best I think she just felt more comfortable talking to me since she could speak English with me.

Overall thumbs up. Green ticket visa approved !!!! Dont be nervous. The questions they ask are related to the info that they have in your I129 packet and also just general relationship questions.

Thanks again to everyone
