I had my Interview on February 13th 2014, here is my experience!
Ok so my appointment letter said 9AM, I was coming from Sheffield by train so had to leave at 5AM, I arrived in King Cross at just before 7 and made my way through the tube system to Bond street and then walked to the Embassy. The embassy itself is really easy to locate, it sure is big enough!
I noticed the ltitle desk on the pavement outside with 2 British girls behind it, there's a sign telling any Interviewee's to head there first and she basically took my DS-160 and Passports to make sure I was who I said I was and gave me a little plastic bag to put my change in and then I was able to join the queue outside. Now let me tell you I was expecting a BIG queue, I was there for about 8:15 and there was literally 3 people ahead of me when I got there so I was straight in, got scanned (you just put your things in a tray like in an airport and walk through scanner). Picked up my things, then you go go through a door and you're inside the railings of the embassy, there's lots of police around but don't be intimidate, just walk round to the main doors and you're in!
Now I was at the reception area, a few more people queued up here but still nothing to talk about, here you have to give the receptionist your DS-160 again and she puts a sticker on it with your ticket number and tells you to head upstairs and take a seat. I remember my number was I-913!
The waiting room itself is fairly big, you can see all the windows and a big screen at the front with numbers flashing up, it makes a "ding" sound so you know when a new number is up. I was waiting maybe an hour before getting called to Window 1. When I got to the window it was a nice elderly Asian looking lady, and she was very police and made jokes etc. Here I had to give her my Birth certificate, Police certificate, she asked me if I'd lived in any other country other than the UK, I said no and she replied "I don't blame you!". I had to give her the I-134 Support forms along with the evidence to go with that and she then gave me a disc with my chest x-ray on it from the medical and then I was told to sit down and wait for my number to be called again for the inteview.
This was so straight forward, I remember actually sitting down and thinking "Oh here we go, this part will be the hard bit!" This time I was waiting a little longer, maybe an hour and a half before being called to window 16. Window 16 was one of the windows located down a corridor rather than in the main waiting room, but no big deal. I got there and there was a young African American lady at the window waiting to interview me, she first made me give an oath to swear I would tell the truth, and then I was asked 4 questions:
1. How did you meet your fiance?
2. How long have you known your fiance?
3. How long before you discussed Marriage/When did you propose?
3. When did you first meet in person
and with that, in maybe 5 seconds she told me I was approved, I was so happy I said THANK YOU! and she smiled with me, she obviously see's this a lot!
But that was it, I was able to just walk out of the embassy a happy man! I can honestly say my experience at the embassy was SO straight forward and simple, I don't even know what I was worrying about!
