Interview date was 13th January at 9am
Arrived at Embassy at 7.15 am and found Goulds Chemist where i dropped off my phone and keys and charger for a charge of £3
Went back to Embassy where a small queue had started to form, I was 7th in line. 3 young girls came out and were very friendly and helpful, ticking us off on a sheet and making sure we had the correct documents to hand. The also directed people to Gould's, and it was at this point that a guy in the queue stated that he had seen reports on line accusing Gould's of identity theft and wiping peoples phones. So the girls said they would report it and it would be investigated. They stopped directing people there.
Once we were ticked off on the appt sheet they asked us to move to the next line adjacent. Then a security guard asked to us, one by one to step forward and he checked our passports, Interview Letters and DS-160 confirmation page, then asked us to step inside the entry where they scan you, again one at a time. You didn't have to take off coats and shoes, just watches and belts.
Then it was up the steps to the Embassy.
Inside, at reception, they again checked your passport, interview letter and DS-160 Confirmation page and gave you a ticket number. Up some more steps to a large hall with rows of seats and a big screen in front
There was free tea and coffee, and you could buy snacks. People were allowed to take in backpacks. There were 11 kiosks to the right hand side, which opened at 8 and they started to call people up one by one.
I went to number 1, a small asian lady, quietly spoken, but lovely and kind with a sense of humour. She requested my passport, Confirmation of interview and payment, birth certificate, affadavit of support, divorce paperwork, 2 photos (which she looked at and then gave back to me)and police certificate. She asked if my daughter, who is listed on my letter, was coming to the US with me and i said no, she would not be emmigrating (nowhere have i ever said that she would be but i think her name was on the letter because she is under 21). She handed me my xrays which were on a disc.
I was then told to go back and sit down until my number was called again for the interview. 15 mins later i was called. There are more kiosks, up to number 26 (i think). I was called to number 16. Lovely African/American lady. She returned my original paperwork to me.
Questions were -
How long had we known each other
How did we meet
Had i met his family
Where did my Fiance's sisters live (which i did not know, although i knew it was america)
Finally she smiled and said that we were approved, and that the visa and passport would be with me in 7 days
I was done by 9, and had retrieved my phone from Gould's and skyped my Fiance by 9.10. My phone did not look as though it had been tampered with in any way
They did not ask for any evidence of our ongoing relationship
They did not question the fact that i had only met him once
