About 40 people in the queue when I arrived at 8.30am today. My appointment was for 9.00am. Checked in first, showing the appointment letter. We were told the interview process was taking about two hours.
Then back to the queue to go through security. We were called through four at a time and I had to show my DS-160 confirmation to the security guard, before we went into the security building.
Go through security, just like at the airport, jacket, hat, loose change and watch in a tray and through the x-ray machine. Leaving the security building turn right and go around outside the building to the 'visa' entrance, up the steps through the doors to the reception desk. Show the appointment letter, passport and DS-160. You are given a number and barcodes which are attached to the appt. letter.
Go to the left, up more stairs and into the waiting room. There are big video screens which flash up the appt. numbers. There is a beep and the numbers, along with a window number, appear in a big yellow square though not in any particular order, so keep your eyes peeled.
When the number comes up go to the window, there the required documents are checked, and kept (you get given your chest x-ray) and you go and sit back down. Wait to be called for the interview, again wait for your number, and the window number, to be displayed.
My interview was carried out by a very pleasant african/american lady. She asked how I met my partner and how the relationship had progressed. We chatted, informally, about the visa application. She looked through some of our photo's, saying "what great pictures!" The whole process was very relaxed.
A lot of the evidence of our relationship wasn't needed, but I was glad we had over-prepared.
It never hurts to have too much info as opposed to not enough.
All in all avery good and stressless morning!
I can recommend The Swan pub in the Bayswater Road, opposite Kensington Gardens, for a post visa beverage. I had a quiet pint there, feeling very happy at the outcome of my interview!
