Review Topic: K3 Visa

I had a 9am appointment for the K3 interview. As suggested I went to the Chennai consulate at 8.45am and waited in line before the window for my passport and interview letter to be checked. I was ushered inside the consulate as soon as they saw the yellow interview letter. The documents I was carrying were inspected by the security officers and I was asked if I was carrying any sealed envelopes or CDs and then I was asked to go to the "Main building". At this place all those appearing for an immigrant visa interview were seated separately, my original interview letter was taken at this point and I was told I'd be called to produce my documents. A while later I was called by name and asked to produce my passport, DD . At this point the lady also checked the documents that I had submitted at the VFS the previous week. She asked me a few questions - Did you travel outside India? Where? Why? Is this the first Marriage for both of you? Then she gave me a token with a number and asked me to wait my turn. Coffee, tea and biscuits were available at the waiting room. I had to wait to go to a counter for non H- non L visa while interviews for H and B visas were conducted at adjacent counters. Interviewees were called at this counter by token no. There were 2 persons seated at this counter. The one who conducted the interview collected my token, asked me to swear that the information in the forms was true and then returned the original birth certificate, photos, marriage certificate and the police clearance certificate issued by the regional passport office. She asked me when I was married, when, where and how many times I had met my spouse before marriage, where my spouse's parents lived, why we hadn't married as soon as we met, what my spouse did for a living, what I did for a living, whether I was working at the moment, whether I had a job offer in the US, why I had visited the US in the past. The other person sitting in on the interview asked the person interviewing me to check a few details about my proposed work and workplace in the US. I was made to feel comfortable through out the interview. At the end of it, I was told that my visa would be granted and that I would get my passport with visa in a week. I received my passport after 2 days. I was out of the consulate at 10.45.
