I wish I had known that cell phones were prohibited. I thought it was okay to have the cell phones powered off while in the embassy. However, they were not allowed at all in the embassy! I was forced to surrender my cell phones to a group of people across the street and go back and wait in line again to get in! Then I had to pay five dollars after the interview to get my cell phones (mine and my fiance's) back.
We got at the embassy about fifteen minutes after five. There was already a long line of people. Are visa appointment time was at 6:45AM. I also wish I had known that the visa interview would not be at exactly 6:45AM. I was stressed because we didn't even gain entrance into the building until about 6:45 so at first I thought we were going to miss our interview. None of the guards outside the embassy explain what is going on. In fact, no guards showed up until after six.
When we both finally got into the embassy (I gained entrance about 20 minutes after my fiance because I had to give the cell phones to people across the street) we had to wait for our numbers to be drawn. Our number got called at different times throughout the morning. Once to take fingerprints, once to collect paperwork, and once for the actual interview itself with took about five minutes.
They asked us questions about how we met, how long we had been dating, I had to identify members of her family in a photograph, she had to answer questions about what I did for a living, how long I had worked at my job, and what my address was in the United States.
They said all of our documentation was good but that my fiance still needed to get the inextensa birth certificate. They said the inextensa birth certificate she had was not an official copy. We left the embassy about ten thirty without the visa.
The inextensa was sent to the embassy by Domex on Tuesday the 15th. Since then we have been waiting for the visa. I emailed the embassy last week and they emailed me back and they said they received the birth certificate but could not give an estimate to the time frame the visa would take; so we are still waiting.
