My appointment was at 8am. I currently live an hour outside London, so I got a 6am train to Charing Cross and then got a bus from there to Selfridges on Oxford Street at 7am. I got to Gould's for about 7:25 and dropped off my phone. The process took a tiny bit longer than I expected - they sit you down at a little table and make you sign and spell your name before sealing a packet and taking you to the till to pay.
Then I went to the Embassy and waited in the first queue. They asked for my letter and passport, then waved me to the next queue. Then we got directed through the airport-style security four at a time, and walked through to the Visa entrance of the Embassy.
Once inside, the reception was like any corporate building. The receptionist asked for my letter and directed me to the waiting room. The room was like a town hall, with non-permanent chairs all facing forward and a ramshackle cafeteria. I was i-901 and called up straight away, where a young american-sounding guy asked me for all my documents. I handed over my passport and interview letter, followed by my 2 passport photos, followed by my birth certificate and copy, and my police certificate and copy. He asked when I planned to travel and I told him Friday, so he said he would make a note on my case. He took the fingerprints of my left and right hand , then asked to see my Fiance's I-134. I handed over my Fiance's I-134, and letter from Employer, and then our co-sponsor's I-134, her Employer letter and her 2012 tax returns. After that he was satisfied and asked me to sit and wait for around half an hour.
A little later I was directed on the big screen to window 16. There I was met by a friendly lady who chatted to me about my Partner, asking where we met, when things got serious, and how the engagement came about. She asked one or two questions about the family and so on, and then said that everything was in order and the visa was approved.
I milled around after, a bit dazed looking for the exit, and on the way out asked a guy the time (since my phone was still at Gould's). The whole thing took just under 45 minutes!
