Dropped off my phone and charger at Goulds Pharmacy (£3), turned right, crossed the road and the embassy is right there. I joined a queue of about 20 people and it moved quickly; showed interview letter once, then again with passport in the queue, then again when you enter the embassy along with MRV receipt. Got given ticket number I907, and sat down in the waiting area. The numbers ping quite regularly, so keep an eye out for your "I" numbers as they are less frequent than the "N" numbers which get called up.
Went to window 13 and handed over interview letter, MRV fee, birth certificate (and adoption) and police certificate and my two photos. Also handed over the affidavit of support, which was the only thing required of the petitioner. The lady then gave me a form for the courier to fill in, then sat back down for another 30 minutes until called up for interview.
The interview was quick and painless. The American guy asked me how we initially met, when I first met her in person, what her son was called and what school he goes to, what interests we both have and subsequently what her favourite film is. He asked where I was going to be living, and I said Oregon - he said he was from Oregon too. I put my hand up to swear that everything was genuine in our application, and he said "your visa is approved", please pay the courier.

I couldn't wait to get back to Goulds to turn on my phone and call my fiancée and tell her the good news!
