My fiance and I are very happy to finally have his K1 Visa. Once we finally got our I-129F approved the Auckland consulate sent us our packet of information within 2 weeks. It took us a bit longer to gather our paperwork together (especially since my fiance had to take a few days off work as the closest US approved doctor was Christchurch and we live in Queenstown). Once we sent the second batch of paperwork off we were called the day after they received it to set up an interview, which was awesome.
The day of the interview was ok. I wouldn't say it went as well as some of these other reviews posted below but it was fine. First we saw "B" the lady who had been sending us correspondence. She was awesome. Really friendly lady who told us our paperwork was fine and she told my fiance what he would need when he entered the US. She really helped soothe our nerves. We saw her immediately once we entered the consulate so we figured we would be in and out quickly just like we'd heard. We had a 9:30 appointment for an interview. We weren't seen until close to noon. We had to sit and watch everyone get interviewed before us, including all the people that arrived after us and US citizens. We watched some people get rejected for various reasons and it was a bit awkward. To be honest, I thought they had forgotten about us. It wasn't until near the end that I realized he had saved all the K1 interviews for the end. I understand there would probably be a wait but I don't understand why we were given that interview time when clearly we were going to be pushed to the end. We had a flight booked for the afternoon (we were told on the phone when making the appointment that there would be plenty of time) and we barely made it.
The interviewing man asked my finance quite a few questions such as my full name, where I was born, what work he was going to do in the States, and how we met. He was joking a bit which was cool but we both still felt a bit nervous. In the end he told us we would have no problem getting the visa. My fiance got his passport with visa inside back 4 days after the interview.
Overall I am really happy with the experience. But don't assume you will be in and out in an hour as I thought.
