Found these really useful when I was preparing for my visa interview so here goes...I had my interview on Tuesday 9th July at 8:30am. Got in the queue for 7:45am and was in by 8:20am (via a quick detour to Gould's cos I forgot I had a memory stick in my bag!). They give you a number (mine was I913) and you wait for it to be called on the big screen. Keep an eye out cos they are calling lots of different numbers (mostly for non-immigrant visas) so be on your toes! I wasn't called to the first window until 9:45am. The lady was really nice, just went through her list and checked I had everything. As long as you're well prepared, you'll be fine. (Passport, 2 photos, birth certificate, police certificate, I-134, bank statement/payslips/letter from employer for my fiance). She put everything in my folder and gave me a slip to fill out for the courier service as well as my chest xray (on dvd) which she said I should carry in my hand luggage in case they ask for it at security.
I sat back down for another 15 minutes before being called to the second window. Another really friendly African-American lady who just asked me all about my relationship (where/when/how we met, had we met each other's parents, where were we going to live etc). All very straightforward if you're in a genuine relationship. The only thing I didn't have was a translation of my police certificate from France but seeing as I'd been there less than a year she decided to omit it. Once she'd asked all the questions she smiled and said my visa had been approved!
My advice is dress smartly, be polite, smile and make sure you're very well prepared. They're not trying to catch you out!
