Review Topic: K1 Visa

DATE: JUNE 24, 2013 - MONDAY

5:30 am - Arrived at US Embassy

6:30 am - In line
Here i showed the ff. requirements:
Appointment Letter
Passport( K1 and K2)
2 DS 156 (each K1 and K2)
2 DS 157 (each K1 and K2)
1 DS 156k (K1)
They checked all forms if properly filled up, stapled all together and they gave it back to me including our passports sealed in a zip lock bag with biopage open.

7:00 am - Entered the building, went trough a scanner, got into a booth for the queue number. They gave me a small list for me to prepare in advance while waiting for my number.

8:00 am - Inside waiting area, somebody in charge collected our docs, she said she will be the one to drop it to window 39. Soon we found a seat. I saw some Filipinas with their fiances beside them, how i wished my Glenn was with me too. Our number flashed first time, me and my son went to window 39, i was informed that they don't have the medical result of my son yet.Good thing i brought our DS 3025, she checked and took booth our passports.

8:30 am - Finger scanning, i saw nice American lady, black hair, she uses the word 'honey' most of the time. She asked questions directly to my son,she asked "what's your name honey?" "honey how old are you?" honey can you press a little bit?". "thank you honey".Only me did the finger scanning, she said its not necessary for my 12 yr old K2.

10:00 am - Interview Filipino consul.
Questions asked:
- Petitioner's name
- How and where we met
- Date 1st visit
- Date last visit
- His job
- If he was married before
- Kids
- If i was married before

Docs asked:
- NSO Birth cert. (k1 and k2)
- 2 NBI ( maiden name and married name)she encircled my name on it.
- Cemar
- Marriage Cert. with annotation
- Annulment Finality and court Decision( all certified true copies)
- Affidavit of Support
- ITR
- W2
- She asked for our pictures together, i did a personalize album with captions on it, just two flips, and we're done.

11: 45 am - Interview American consul.
(Serious half American half Indian)i still managed to smile a bit.
He asked:
- where we first met ( it lightened his face when he knew i am from Tacloban, said he was recently in my hometown and he was trying to recall the name of the mall, and he said oh yes Robinson's!. And he find Tacloban a beautiful place( yeah actually...).
Questions asked:
- petitioner's name
- place
- what does he do
- where did he grow up
- hobbies
- and he asked for our pics, 2 flips and he's okay..
that's it,..and he paused... while looking at the computer and say..

CONGRATULATIONS YOUR VISA IS APPROVED!!!

and i replied, oh thank you!...and still smiling. he said 'we will request the medical result of your son 'mamayang hapon o bukas '(cute accent).'and he handed me a hand out ( immigrant rights).

11:55 am - To releasing area.. Soon as we got a seat, somebody announces, they will close for a lunch break, we might as well get our lunch or snacks too, and we're advise to get back at exactly 1 pm.

Swear to God the Mcdo burger (P25.00)is wayyyyyyy tooooooooooooo better than the hotdog(P90.00) inside the embassy. But i was so happy that i don't wanna think about the taste anymore...

1:10pm - My number flashed , the man recalled my visa delivery information( i opted to pick it up at 2Go office in my hometown.)He returned my appointment letter did some scratches on it, and he said "you're good to go"I said 'thank you' and we hurriedly took a taxi back to hotel, very hungry need rice..and can't wait to tell the good news to my Glenn.

Finally.....Good luck for those who are still waiting especially those with upcoming interviews. Yes,it's nerve racking moment at first, but when i was already exhausted with the waiting and it was really freezing inside, the nervous eventually fades out, all i wish was to have our number flash on the queue board every after step, to get things over and done with...

Tip: Make your answers short and concise. I heard an applicant beside me telling a story, she was in that window before us and we were done before her. She keeps goin back and forth for some unanswered on the forms i think, or maybe wrong entry,..good thing is, embassy gives us a chance to correct everything, they don't really decline you immediately( don't worry!!) at least that was my observation that day. And this woman got approved...she was just behind us a bit.

Thanks VJ for the guides, i was so ready for this one big day because of you.. God Bless us all. Can't wait to get to my new HOME!!!...

Chow!!!
