I had my interview on 14th May, and was so happy to be approved. I arrived in London, with my sister for moral support, on the 13th and we booked into the Marble Arch Inn, it was very clean and the staff were all very helpful and polite. We took a walk to find the Embassy and to gauge the time it would take to get there, just over 10 minutes.
On Tuesday morning I got to the Embassy at 7.30, my interview time was officially 8.30, and joined a short queue. At 8 they started to allow people in to go through security and into the building. I had given my phone, key fob etc to my sister, so had no problems there. At the first desk, my number was attached to my appointment letter and I was number I905. I settled down for a wait. There were lots of students there needing visas for working with Camp America and there N numbers were called out in rapid succession. At 8.20 I was called to window 13. A very polite young man went through all the paperwork, asked for my husband's tax returns and W2s for 2012, everything was in order. He took my fingerprints and then he asked me to sit and wait for my interview and gave me a pink form to fill in for delivery of my visa. It was 8.35 when I sat down.
After 15 minutes waiting, I was called to window 16 for my interview, and was instantly put at ease by a lovely young American woman, who asked me to sign the DS230 part 2 and told me not to be nervous. She retook the fingerprints on my left hand and then she asked me a few questions, where did you meet? which website was that? It was a poetry website, so she asked me about the kind of poems I write. When did you decide to get married? When did you get engaged? How many people came to your marriage ceremony? She did not question the fact that neither of our families were there. She then said the wonderful words, I'm pleased to tell you that your visa has been approved and she told me what to do when I receive my package from the Embassy. I went and paid for delivery of my passport and left the building at 9.20.
I joined my sister in the park outside the Embassy, and promptly burst into tears in relief. I hadn't realised just how stressed I had felt.
My top tip for those of you who have to travel to London and stay over. We bought tickets for the Big Bus Company for our two days there, it meant we could sightsee too, and also took us right back to Euston station when it was time to come home again.
I have checked and my visa has now been issued, I am just waiting for it to be delivered.
