Got to the consulate early, was third to arrive. Chatted with other vj'ers to pass the time and forget how freaking cold it was. Security kept my key fob and ear buds (loser, I forgot). Followed all previous review suggestions after security, getting on elevator, but when you get to the actual floor? Confusing. Just head to the cashier spot and stay there or others will bud ahead. Whatever.
First interview window she asked for my birth certificate and had me sign the papers I submitted online, as well as the I134 and supporting documents. (or maybe that was 2nd interview?) Did some digital fingerprints, then back to the general area to wait.
First interviewee left with a big smile and a thumbs up to a quiet crowd. Elbowing your way to be first in line pays sometimes, I suppose.
Third gal to be called to the interview left with a sad expression, made me nervous, but I was C5, so they called me in, and it was my turn. Young gal asked me the rote questions, name, his name, his line of work - we had a brief chat about that. She asked how we met, asked me to walk her through the relationship from the time we met ... and moments later ... approved, welcome to the USA!
All in all ... in line at 7:10am, out the door before 9 am. Forgot some things that weren't allowed, security gave me a ticket for those and the guys were GREAT about it, I was a wreck. Everything was there at the end of the interview.
Walked back to the hotel and promptly messaged my fiance, who called immediately.
To anyone booking flights - if you are there early, you will be finished before at least 10 if you have everything in order. I had booked a 7pm flight out, went to the airport early, got on standby for the noon flight to Toronto, and ended up the last standby seat called, and first class. So, perhaps my reward for biting my tongue when others were rude at the Embassy? Congrats to the fellow vj'ers who suffered the cold with me at 7ish am. Happy for us all!!
